Wow, another week with the foster family and I'm feeling gggrreeeaaatttt! I'm even loping around the living room like a cute little western pony! My foster sister is constantly trying to play with me, but I'm not quite the same level of activity as her, so she plays and I cheer. The family had a whole bunch of their people family over on the weekend. Everyone was amazed by how loving and sweet I am. (Even Uncle Not-a-Dog-Lover thought I was pretty special. Obviously, he has good taste!) I even got to see the newborn baby and my foster mom was so pleased with how I would sniff with interest but respect baby's space! I really liked the little girl who was petting me. I'm probably twice her mass, but I was such a gentleman taking cookies oh-so-gently and letting her cuddle me that she wasn't scared for a minute. (Only cookies fear my teeth!) The family brought some snakes out over the weekend too. I can't say that I particularly cared that they were out. There were people about. Once they all settled into their games and chatter, I assumed my position (laying under the kitchen table...you know, in case any “accidents” happened with some of the meat and cheese tray he he he) and was perfectly content to just get a little tummy rub by the ladies warming up their toes on my fluffy coat. Oh! What a lovely way to spend an afternoon! Foster mom says that she's going to be taking more pictures of me once I go to the groomer. I really can't wait! I'm handsome now, but I'm going to be the most handsome gentleman in town soon! (Hope as I am?) What more could a person want in a canine companion? I'm sweet, gentle and happy just to be near you. (Hope foster dad keeps an eye on his lady. Who can resist a creature as sweet and charming as I am?)

Jhettsu here again. Thought that I would give you another update. Now that I’m settling in with the foster family, I’ve decided to work part time as home front security. That’s right – I’m an amazing, one-dog security system. It’s all about being clever. (Us older fellows are very crafty. If you’ve ever played cribbage with a grandpa, you’ll know what I’m talking about.) I lay in front of the front door so that intruders have no access to the house that way. (Clever, right?) Yes, there are other ways in, so I rotate throughout the house. For instance, I have taken to watching the fireplace just in case anyone takes the “Santa approach” to getting in. (Haha, bad guys! I will foil you with my patented “napping dog” rouse. Well...except when I’m actually napping.) Of course, I also patrol the hall and use the napping dog tactic here as well. Anyone who decides to enter through a window will have to trip over me before they can do anything else in the house. Furthermore, I’m a silent alarm, as I’m not much of a barker, so I can sneak up (assuming they don’t hear my panting) on intruders and suprise them. With my coat looking so much like a tuxedo, they’ll likely assume that I’m James Bond and surrender to me. (Which is good, because once I’ve found them, I’m not sure what to do with them. Does asking for cookies and cuddles protect the house in any way?) See how diligent I am?

Well, I'm into my foster home and I think that I'll be happy to just hang out until my forever family comes along. I have a foster sister who is fun to watch play. Me...I'm a different kind of player. There isn't a person alive who I can't charm out of a cookie or a good petting. Don't believe me? Come meet me and find out for yourself. I could win your heart in moments. I'm like Casanova.

My foster parents took me for a bath, which was delightful. The stairs into the tub at the dog wash weren't easy for me with the arthritis, but I would do anything to make them happy with me. Gee...it really paid off too. That warm water felt so good and they spent all this time devoted to bringing out how handsome I really am. I can't wait to hit the groomers and lose the rest of this extra hair. I'll be the most exquisite gentleman!

I'm not a big walker. I'm usually much more content to just sit in the house and enjoy the company of my foster family, but I do like the pleasure of getting to just find a cozy space outside to lay down and enjoy a cool breeze and some sunshine. When my foster sister plays ball, I'm happy to cheer her on from the sidelines. I get all the good petting and rubbing, she gets to do all the chasing. It's so perfect. My foster mom found out exactly how much of a gentleman I am last week. She was sharing a leftover turkey burger (Oh! I LOVE turkey!) between myself and my foster sister. Both of us did so well sharing and I always surprise her with how very careful I am taking treats. I really love treats, but it's hard to get them unless you take them as gently and kind as I do.

Did I mention that they never kennel me? Oh yes. I'm so thankful and happy for being invited into their home that I would never have an "accident" here. I hope that I can continue to show this family how perfect an older dog is - how gentle, kind, relaxed and well-mannered an older fellow like myself can be so that they will tell others.

Can you believe that someone would not want me? Well, I've got them convinced that you must be crazy to not want me. I'll convince you too.
Until next time, love, cuddles and happy nappy times,
Jhettsu
